02 Feb 08 The secret eco-town timetable
Leicester Mercury
02 Feb 08 On Saturday 2nd February, a protest demonstration was held outside the Midlands Co-op store in Houghton-on-the-Hill. Some 200 people turned out to wave banners and placards and Alan Duncan MP and Edward Garnier MP were joined by County Councillors Kevin Feltham (also Chairman of CASCET), Simon Galton (also Vice-chairman of CASCET) and District Councillors Steve Charlish and Graham Spendlove-Mason. The event was co-organised by Steve Charlish and the Hon. Secretary of CASCET, Dr Tony Bentley. A black coffin was used to highlight the death of rural village life if this Pennbury location is selected. This follows on from a similar demonstration held outside the Co-op store in Great Glen on 19th January.
01 Feb 08 A packed public meeting of 340 people on 1st February in the Coplow Centre Hall in Billesdon listened to speeches from both local MPs, Alan Duncan and Edward Garnier, both local County Councillors, Kevin Feltham (Chairman of CASCET) and Simon Galton (Vice-chairman of CASCET), Andy Robinson, the Assistant Chief Executive of Leicestershire County Council, and Michael Goddard, former secretary of CASM, Campaign Against Stretton Magna, which fifteen years ago successfully fought off the last bid by the Co-op to build on their agricultural estate south east of Leicester. CASCET are asking people to contribute towards a campaign fighting fund of £50,000 to fund campaign material and the professional help from planners and lawyers that we will need for a formal response should this location be shortlisted.
