Update from the Pennbury Eco Town Committee
Look out for a comment on behalf of the Leicestershire Aero Club in tomorrows (Wed 16th Jan) Leicester Mercury regarding the proposed Pennbury Eco Town.
Also: A demonstration will be held outside the Great Glen Co-op on Saturday 19th Jan at 11:00 am. It will be attended by members of the press, MP Edward Garnier, local schools and interest groups opposed to the proposed development. We would like to get as many Aero Club members there as possible to support the protests (banners not required).
Four members of the committee will be attending a meeting at the Billsdon Coplow centre on Friday 18th Jan. I will report on this next week.
Lastly - A notice board will be erected in the Club at the bottom of the stairs this weekend. We (the committee) will add information from all the attended meetings and keep you informed of our activities and progress, but this notice board is open to EVERYONE to post information that may be of interest or use to us.

Eco Town
Considering the likely impact on our flying, there seems to be very little reaction to this monstrous project. Has any body any ideas how we can arouse some fighting spirit other than signing the Number 10 petition which we all know from past experience will be ignored?
Eco Town
Individual letters from hundreds of people take far more time to look at than a single petition and will therefore attract more attention from MPs and people of influence. If your MP receives 500 letters on the same subject they will take a lot more interest than they would take in a single petition. To make it easier, a letter could be written and posted on this website for people to download, sign and post to their MP.
Stoughton Eco Town
The proposals for this are advancing in private but it is understood that it is considered as HIGHLY LIKELY TO GO AHEAD as only the CoOp are involved as landowners and the plans could be put into more or less immediate effect. Despite LAC having a lease, it is unlikely this would prevent and compulsory orders...
There is a public meeting on Friday 1st February 2008 at the Billesdon Coplow Centre where more details may be available but in the meantime please register at
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/PennburyEcoTown/
This is an official petition hosted by the government so has the potential of some influence.
Please sign up to it and encourage anyone else with an interest to do the same.
Stoughton Eco-Town
This has horrendous implications for the Club and the local area. Although we do generate some noise nuisance and to our best to minimise it the environmental damage of the Co-op proposal would totally destroy the local, largely rural, community. It would also deprive all of Leicestershire and the region of an established and thriving venue for General Aviation.
I have contacts with many General Aviation organisations along with the GA media and would be more than willing to enlist their assistance should it be thought appropriate at this stage.
Planned Eco Town
I will be attending a Forum meeting next week with local councillors and MP's.re this horrendous proposal which will destroy our landscape and the whole idea is impossible because the road infrastructure is dreadful now unable to cope.I will be doing a petition in and around Oadby Town at a later date (if agreed) for those without Internet access, which there are still many and we need all the signatures as possible, otherwise the Government will say we are not bothered. How about one of your Members flying a Banner over the relevant areas to Advertise this proposal!!??
banner towing
Anne towing a banner would be a great idea, unfortunately it is not quite as easy as you would probably imagine. We would need to get approval from the CAA which is quite a lenghty and expensive procedure, and also specially adapted aircraft.
I think we need to ensure
I think we need to ensure that people are aware of the e-petition, not just club members and people from the local vilaages but also the wider aviation community. The loss of the airfield will affect a muh wider audience than just our members.
Eco-Town
The club has formed a sub committee to help fight the proposed Eco-Town. The committee will report directly to the Concil of Management. The committe is headed by Ivan Court, backed up by Ian Atherton and myself. We will be present at as many meetings as possible and will report back to the membership to keep you informed of any developments. I am currently ploughing through the 'Sustainability Appraisal Report' produced by White Young Green on behalf of the Co-op so that we can put an argument forward that the proposal is basically flawed and will not meet the claims that it makes regarding the benefits to the local community etc.
We will be erecting a separate notice board within the club house to provide feedback on our progress.
If you have any direct questions that you would like to ask then they can be directed to any of the sub committee members in person, by letter or by email.
